It’s just ten days before the boat race and detective fiction is both welcome distraction and light reading for the Cambridge Eight. However, preparations are seriously hampered by the sudden death of one of their number, whose body is discovered in perplexing circumstances. Suicide, or murder - and which of them, if any, had a motive? Many challenges lie ahead for Scotland Yard detective Angus MacNair, in this locked-room mystery, first published in 1933.
Robert Egerton Swartwout (1905-1951) was a poet, humourist and, more importantly, the first American to cox the Cambridge University Boat Club to victory in 1930. He is also the author of Rhymes of the River and Other Verses (W Heffer and Sons, Limited. Cambridge 1927).
